An extraordinary story.
Axel Alletru became paraplegic at the age of 20 following a fall during the Motocross World Championship in Latvia in 2010. He decided to turn his accident into a life lesson and rebuild his life through swimming. After 3 years of training, he joined the French Paralympic Swimming Federation, and became a 12-time French Champion and several times French record holder in freestyle swimming. But his passion for motorsport never left him.
In 2020, he set himself a new challenge: to compete against able-bodied people and win the 30th edition of the Dakar Rally, which took place from January 5 to 17, 2020.
A strong project.
The goal of this project is to show that despite the challenges life throws at us, it is possible to overcome them, bounce back, and experience great adventures. It spreads this message through the #jepeux2020 movement on social media, encouraging people to push beyond their limits and achieve their dreams.
" Behind the impossible, there is always a possibility ." Axel Alletru It is therefore accompanied by a team of 4 people composed of a co-pilot, a physiotherapist, a technical and mechanical coordinator, and a communications officer that Axel embarked on this new adventure. To compete among the able-bodied, Axel and his team chose a vehicle in the SSV category - a vehicle halfway between a quad and a buggy - with a specific adaptation for Axel's disability. Indeed, the fixed accelerator pedal is equipped with a plate that allows the left foot to be placed on the brake. Having no sensitivity in the foot, it is the movement of Axel's leg that allows braking.
A successful challenge.
Despite his disability and the difficulties he encountered during this sporting challenge, Axel and his team finished 7th overall in the SSV standings, first Frenchman and first in the standard SSV class (limited to 120 km/h). A victory that proves that with passion, ambition, and hard work, anything is possible.
